Reconnect and Reset

After 10,753 miles in the air (I counted) over 3+ weeks, going back and forth over seven time zones, the summer's been a little rough on me.

But when I arrived home to an indescribable "I missed you, Daddy" hug from my just-turned-14-year-old daughter on her birthday, it was all worth it.

Don't get me wrong, an epic family vacation followed by one of the most rewarding client events I've ever participated in are not reasons for complaint, but salespeople are often driven to extremes, and it's important to remember why.

In each one of the 14 sessions I delivered for this client, I touched on their why; reminding them of their purpose. Selling is just too difficult of a career to make it any harder than it needs to be, and when the going gets tough, the tough revisit their purpose.

As we're into the second half of 2023, I think it's appropriate to ask you to revisit your big purpose.

Remember, selling with integrity means having alignment between what you sell, who you sell it to, how you sell it, and why. Chances are, you picked a company to work for and that checks the first two boxes. How you sell is up to you, but the key to learning how to sell best is by understanding why you sell.

So I'm asking you:

  • Why do you believe in your company?

  • Why do you believe in what you sell?

  • Why do you believe in yourself?

  • Why do you believe your customers are better of for working with you?

Spend some time writing (or at least thinking) about these four questions. If you'd like a little more commentary and detail on them, check out the first season of my podcast. In about 45 minutes total, I go over all of those questions, what they mean, and how they impact your ability to do your best work.

I suggest you spend another 30-45 minutes or so journaling about your thoughts and the answers. Here's a worksheet if you're into that sort of thing.

Life's too short to leave your best work on the table, especially when the people who are most important to you are growing up fast.

Reconnect with your purpose. Reset your intentions for the second half of the year. Remember, you never sell better than when you Sell Like You.

The Chosen Vision golf marathon is back on July 31 this year, which means it'll be hotter and more difficult to complete.

Not to worry, you just need to send money and participate in a great sales coaching cohort during the month of August.
